1 How do I log in securely and without a password?

You will find access to your digital inventory conveniently at the bottom of our website, in the footer, under the link “Cloud login”.

When you click it, all you enter is your email address. You will immediately receive an email containing your personal access link. One click opens a new window and you are logged in directly and securely.

This may seem unusual at first, but it serves the security of your data 100 %. You do not have to remember complicated passwords that you will forget sooner or later anyway. Your email inbox is your secure key. (When signing in, please also check your spam folder in case the email does not land in your inbox straight away.)

2 What you can do in your dashboard

Once in your dashboard, you have full control over your inventory. You can register new items and edit or delete existing entries at any time. For your own records – for insurance purposes, for example – all entries can be printed out clearly.

3 A handy reference for everyday life: to hand 24/7

By registering, you also create an extremely useful reference almost as a side effect. Sometimes you wonder – at the latest when a device breaks: how old is this actually? Is it still under warranty? Or you want to buy spare parts and the seller suddenly asks for the exact model and serial number.

With the Cloud that is no longer a problem. You have your smartphone with you around the clock (24/7). A quick look at your dashboard is far easier and faster than rummaging through thick folders of old purchase documents at home!

5 How to transfer ownership securely

Selling a registered item to someone who also has a GBID? Then you transfer the entry to the new owner’s dashboard in just a few clicks.

Your privacy matters to us: only the neutral basic data (identification number, manufacturer, model/type) is transferred. Your personal data – such as your purchase price or where you bought the item – is of course not passed on.

6 Why you should record e-bikes & pedelecs in more detail

Until now it was common to record bicycles by frame number only. For high-quality e-bikes and pedelecs, that is no longer enough today. Stolen bikes are often dismantled, since individual parts such as the battery alone are worth several hundred euros.

At GLOBALBACK you go one step further: you can record and inventory not only the frame number but also the motor, the battery and the control unit separately, each with its own identification number.

7 The status function: active prevention and transparency

You must assign a status to every item when you register it. The reason is simple: thieves try to sell their loot as quickly as possible. Through our portals, every potential buyer can check the identification numbers before buying.

When you register an item as “FOR SALE”, it appears green in your private dashboard. In our public portals, however, this status appears highlighted in yellow when someone runs a search, together with a warning:

This is how we deliberately prevent stolen or misappropriated found items from simply being registered as “for sale” by offenders in order to deceive buyers acting in good faith.

8 Prevention: how we want to turn temptation into honesty

Imagine someone finds your very expensive camera. Even with people who are basically honest, the temptation in a personal financial emergency can be great to simply sell the find.

These days such a sale is easily possible via classified ads – except if your camera is registered with GLOBALBACK and set to “Lost”. The risk for the dishonest finder of being caught via the serial number when selling then rises enormously. Our aim is that precisely this knowledge moves the finder to return the camera directly to you, the rightful owner, instead – because the legal finder’s reward is ultimately the far safer alternative.
