How to use your GBID effectively
One code, a thousand possibilities
Tips for perfect placement
1. The Golden Rule: Create Context
To ensure your property returns to you quickly in case of
loss, a finder must know immediately what to do. A
combination of letters and numbers like "GBID1001" is
often not self-explanatory to outsiders.
Important: Always display the GBID together with our
website!
Correct: GBID1001 – globalback.com
Insufficient: GBID1001
Only then does the finder know immediately where to
enter the code to contact you.
In addition to the Top-Level Domain (TLD)
ending in .com, the following TLDs are also
available to you:
globalback.de / globalback.at / globalback.ch
2. Your Formatting Freedom
For the technical functionality of our database, the exact
format is secondary. Make it as easy as possible for the
finder to read the code. Whether you use spaces or
hyphens is up to you—our system will still find you.
GBID 1001 (with space for better readability)
GBID-1001 (with hyphen)
gbid1001 (lowercase)
3. Manage Data (Email & Phone)
Do you have a new email address or want to change
your stored emergency phone number?
No problem. You will find the "Login" link at the bottom
of every page. Enter your ID and email address there to
receive an access link. You can update or delete your
contact details at any time via your personal dashboard.
4. Text, QR Code, or Both?
The choice is yours: Classic text or modern QR code.
The QR Code (The Fast Way)
The finder scans the code with their
smartphone and lands immediately on
your profile page. They don't have to type
anything and can send you a message
directly or dial your emergency number (if
provided).
Note: Due to security concerns (fear of malware), some
people are reluctant to scan unfamiliar QR codes.
Solution: Use our QR Code Generator >>Link<< to
create a secure code for your ID.
The Text Format (The Trusted Way)
A web address like globalback.com can be read and
evaluated by anyone. This builds trust but requires the
finder to briefly type in the ID.
Our Recommendation:
If you have enough space (e.g., on a luggage tag), use
both! The text explains what it's about, and the QR code
provides the convenience.
5. Inspiration Guide: Where to place the GBID?
Since we deliberately forgo pre-made tags, you have full
control over the material and design. Here are some
proven ideas:
Smartphone & Tablet…
These devices have become essential to us, yet they are
frequently lost or left behind.
Lock Screen: Create a wallpaper where your GBID and
the URL are clearly legible. This is free and helps
immediately, even if the device is locked.
Case: A small slip of paper between the phone and the
protective case (for transparent cases) or a sticker on the
back.
Pro Tip: Have a custom phone case printed—with your
design of choice and the GBID on the edge.
Keychain
Engraving: Many locksmiths or shoe repair shops offer
affordable engraving services. Use the back of an
existing tag or key fob.
DIY: A simple, labeled key tag from a stationery store
often serves the same purpose.
Wallet & Bags
Business Card: Print a card with the note: "If found,
please report to globalback.com – ID:..."
Metal Card: You can have affordable metal business
cards engraved online—robust and elegant.
Backpacks & Sports Bags
Here, usage dictates placement: A sturdy tag on the
outside is visible to the finder more quickly. A card in the
inner transparent pocket is more discreet but might only
be discovered later.
